Life can be hectic, messy and challenging. It is definitely not a one way straight road! Sometimes we find ourselves stuck. Some describe it as swirling, feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, on autopilot or moving in the wrong direction altogether. Why do we feel that way? It seems that our definition of success and/or happiness has morphed into being external and achievement-based. We focus on and glorify multi-tasking, our to-do list, the "next thing," etc. We are living from the outside - in rather than the inside - out.
The benefit of staying on Next Thing Highway? More gets done, we get that promotion, salary increase, new car, lose the 10 pounds.... whatever the "thing" we are focusing on is.
The disadvantage? We find ourselves on autopilot traveling down a path feeling disconnected, empty and lost. We struggle feeling joy. We never quite feel fulfilled. Our true needs are not met (maybe not even identified). We fill our tanks with the wrong things to mask/numb our true feelings (again, maybe not even identified). We feel out of balance in one and many times, more areas of life.
The result? An unhealthy mind, body and/or spirit. Constant striving for the next thing that you think will make you happy, fulfilled or successful. Time spent focusing in the future or past; not being present. Feeling uncertain about purpose, goals and desires. And so on.
It's ok though. It happens. We all go through seasons of being oriented in the right direction only to find ourselves disoriented. Being disoriented is what leads us to feeling stuck, swirling, and overwhelmed. It's the space where we feel unfulfilled. So, how do we get unstuck? We get re-oriented! Maybe it's a few changes to get back on track. Maybe it's creating a new path altogether. Either way, you can redefine your life so you can travel toward awareness, balance and connection!
